Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren informed the Assembly on Wednesday that the Central Bureau of Investigation had found the proposed inquiry into the death of a Manipuri student in Uttar Pradesh (UP) “not suitable”.
Pravesh Chanam was found dead in Noida in UP on September 10, 2017.
According to media reports, Chanam might be a victim of a criminal gang engaged in illegal organ trading.
He went missing from a concert held in Noida after which his brother filed a complaint with the police. Reports said that the police, instead of handing over the body to his family, allegedly took it to a far off place and cremated it as an “unclaimed body”.
Meanwhile, the People’s Action Committee has called a 24-hour general strike from Thursday midnight demanding a probe into the case.
Many civil organisations are extending support to the general strike. Biren had appealed to the organisations against the strike.
